Courage Connection is a non-profit shelter designed to help victims of domestic violence and their families. It is currently the only domestic violence shelter in Champaign county, a county which has one of the highest rates of domestic violence in Illinois. Courage Connection strives towards its goal of Safety, Support, and Success for its residents. Operation Forward wanted to help Courage Connection to achieve this goal by implementing our workforce development program curriculum and teaching it to residents of the shelter.
For eight semesters, Operation Forward brought in professionals from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to create, teach, and perfect our curriculum. Courage Connection was the first shelter where our program was implemented, and we used feedback from the residents that we taught to strengthen and refine our lesson plans. After eight semesters, we finalized our curriculum, worked closely with Courage Connection to implement our curriculum sustainably as a part of its program for residents, and are now prepared to help more victims of domestic violence around the country develop professionally by continuing our project with more domestic violence shelters.
